A 704 Party: Designing Culture at Scale

A 704 Party started as an experiment back in 2023. I'd just moved back to my hometown, Charlotte NC after attending college in Ohio and moving to Austin, TX shortly after graduation. I was searching for a place that felt authentic, where people could actually dance, connect, and listen to music that spanned multiple genres. I couldn't find it, so I built it.

What was meant to be an initial gathering of ~30ish people, ended up being a large event with ~200 people. At that very moment, it became clear— there was a demand for what I was building. Over the past 2.5 years, A 704 Party has turned into one of Charlotte’s most recognized cultural brands, regularly bringing out hundreds (sometimes thousands) of people. This is done by thoughtful curation, storytelling, and most importantly, consistency.

In it's entirety though, it's all design:

• User research: Observing what people were craving from entertainment and why existing experiences weren’t resonating. Filling gaps instead of layering on top of existing things.

• Prototyping: testing venues, music genres, visual identities, and flows to see what felt right.

• Iteration: adjusting sound, lighting, and communication touchpoints after each event based on feedback and real data (ticket conversion, bar sales, sentiment, etc.)

Every detail has been intentional. From designing the user journey that allow guests to sign up for direct text invites (and actually building the application for that), to learning how to configure lighting programs for events so that we are able to transform a venue for one night .

My ultimate goal has been to curate an experience that feels luxurious, yet accessible.

Today, A 704 Party operates as more than an event. It’s a platform that bridges design, culture, and community. We’ve built an online community of 20k followers, hosted 30+ large scale events, collaborated with local brands (fashion, art, restaurants, etc.) and even launched Culture Forward, a grant that reinvests event proceeds into funding local creatives.

My role as the Founder has spanned brand strategy, experience design, creative direction, management and production, but at it's root my goal has always been to build this product so that it adds value the City of Charlotte.
